If I Could Be a Character From a Book, I'd Be…

I'd be Zaphod Beeblebrox. I mean, come on….the dude is the President of the Galaxy! Not only that, but he's got a pretty sweet ride, gets all the space chicks he wants, and barely has half a brain! Yup, that's the easy life for me.

If I had easy access to a helicopter, I'd fly to San Fransisco, CA this weekend

I'd head straight to SF if my best friend had a helicopter. Why? I was there on a church trip in high school, and we had limited time to explore the city. I really liked what I saw and just want to go back there and spend some quality time with the wifey exploring the city and stalking George Lucas until he hires me to play with Star Wars stuff all day long.

My first job: landscaping

Posted in Uncategorized on July 27, 2010 by Mayor Kyle P. Riel

My very first job where I earned an actual paycheck (not counting the occasional lawn mowing gig) was at a local golf course (Pine Hill in Carlton if you're wondering). It all really happened by accident.

I was a junior in high school and I liked to hang out in the art department. My art teacher was not only awesome, but was a friend of my Dad's so I felt like I had a kind-of 'in' with him. I'm not the drawing or painting type, I like me some good old clay sculpting and pottery!

So one day my art teacher asks me if I'm interested in a summer job. I of course tell him 'sure'! He then explains to me that he 'accidentally' purchased a golf course and wanted to know if I wanted to be on the grounds crew.

What I didn't realize at that time was Pine Hill is next to the freeway. Well, my art teacher and an English teacher had a sign business together, and they bought this land without checking it out. Once the bought it – holy crap! We just bought a golf course!

So, I actually spent two summers in Carlton, Minnesota fixing up a very run down golf course. I think they owned it a few more years, and then sold the place off to people who actually wanted to own a golf course. Good times, good tan, and decent money for a summer job.

Friend Numero Uno

Posted in Uncategorized on July 23, 2010 by Mayor Kyle P. Riel

My best friend is my loving, beautiful wife of almost 9 years. Why? Simple. We've been through some nasty stuff over the last 11 years….but we've been able to survive and make it though together.

That's the key word there: together. We've been together long enough now to know each others thoughts and can read each other very, very well. She is my rock, and I am her's. Best friend. Best wife. Best. I can't imagine going through anything difficult at all without her now.

But, we do know how to have a great time together as well! Seems like we don't have much time these days for a lot of 'fun', but when we do, we do it together, and that's what is important.

Let’s Try This Again

Posted in Uncategorized on March 27, 2010 by Mayor Kyle P. Riel

This place has been cleared of all that was, and will soon be replaced with all that will be.  As soon as I figure out what that is.  Until then, I shall remain quiet.

Have a nice day.
